Dear Friends,
Please take a minute to read this message from other property owners in
Avalon.
We have formed an organization to take up the issues of a group of
people who feel they have been under-represented in Avalon as property
owners.
We are CIPOA - Catalina Island Property Owners Association - and you can
check us out on the web at www.cipoa.com.
The motivating factor for the formation of our group has been what we
see as the City of Avalon's continuing discriminatory actions towards
some owners, specifically those applying for CUPs, but this will not be
our only focus.
People already involved in CIPOA have experience in organizing property
owners into powerful voting blocks. They have also helped owners find a
voice in city government by supporting members for elected office,
researching court cases in other cities that are pertinent to owners
groups, and keeping the press informed of important issues.
We envision CIPOA as a community group in Avalon that will be
represented at those meetings open to the public - City Council,
Planning Commission, Hospital, etc. - that our group feels could benefit
from our involvement. We want to respectfully remind the City of
Avalon that we are their taxpayers and they are accountable to Us.
We have mentioned property rights. We are also dedicated to the issue of
property responsibilities. We want to be good owners and neighbors. We
hope the City will invite us to work with them in a positive manner to
find solutions to some of the City's problems.
Whatever your concerns as property owners are, please don't miss the
chance to make your voice heard in Avalon. Please join us at our
Meeting/Open House this Tuesday, December 12, at 225 Claressa -
5:00-6:30 P.M. Please note this is immediately before the City Council
meeting.
We realize that many potential members are not full-time residents of
Avalon, so remember, you can keep in touch with us by email at
info@cipoa.com. We would love to hear any ideas you might have to help
us grow and become effective in the community that we all love.
Sincerely,
Bill and Susan Scheding,
Catalina Property Owners
